SCHOLARSHIPS
The National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Alumni present $500 scholarships to the NIRA Rookies of the Year (man and woman) at the College National Finals Rodeo.
Rookie scholarships for 2010 were awarded to Syndi Blanchard, CNFR Champion barrel racer of Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico and to Jason Schaffer, steer wrestler of Howard Country Junior College in Big Spring, Texas.
Jason, who split the All-Around Championship, came in second in steer wrestling. Syndi is in the top fifteen in barrel racing competition in the Women' s Professional Rodeo Association and could easily go to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas in December.
Again this year scholarships were awarded to the sixth place men’s and women’s teams. The Sixth Place Men’s Team Scholarship went to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. The Women's Team Scholarship was split between Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
